You Missed the Ceviche at Balettcipő, Now Don't Miss the Rib-Eye

When we last wrote about District VI's delightful Balettcipő, we were salivating over the their phenomenal (at least for Budapest) "Philly" cheesesteak sandwich. If you haven't had it yet, don't sweat it, because it's still on the café/restaurant's regular menu. But what you should sweat is missing some of the specials being trotted out these days at the "ballet slipper," which seem to come and go as quickly and quietly as a light-footed Russian ballerina.

Because it's not going to do anyone much good to show you a bunch of wonderful stuff you'll probably never get a chance to eat we'll only tease you with two. In the middle is a ceviche appetizer (Latin American-style citrus-cured raw seafood salad) that we had a few weeks back for the very sensible price of Ft 1,250 (€5). It was good enough that we went back on Wednesday to try it again, only to be told it was already long gone. So we drowned our sorrows in the equally excellent rib eye steak with pepper sauce, pearl onions, garlic mash and poppadom (Indian chick-pea flower crisp) pictured below, which also came at a very friendly price, in this case Ft 2,500.

We have no idea how long this dish will stay on the specials sheet, but if you're anywhere near the Opera, go check it out, before... they replace it with something even better.
