Not really, but when has that ever mattered! Anyway, just so you know, the government is apparently set to not only hike the “chip taxes” it recently put into place by up to 25%, but to extend them to additional products seen as unhealthy, among them flavored beer and “alcopop” (no big deal for us) as well as coffee (big deal).
The new coffee tax will reportedly be Ft 250 (around €.85) per kilo, which, depending on how cheap your cup of Joe is, could work out to a significant price hike.
The good news is that it appears that a related, earlier plan to radically increase taxes on cheap, artificially-flavored alcoholic drinks is not going through. The bad news is that it takes a while to get a taste for cheap, artificially-flavored alcoholic drinks first thing in the morning. But we’ll be sure to try. [nol.hu, hvg.hu]

I’ll bring you a couple of kilos of coffee from the
low(er)-tax haven that is the UK. Hell, I could
probably even order it on Amazon and get it sent
VAT-free from Jersey.
