Everyone always jokes about EU funds being drunkenly dumped into giant holes in countries like Hungary. Well, now we can say it’s not only true, but in some cases may be a good thing. According to deluxe.hu, a unique “underground” project aimed at boosting wine tourism is being developed in Budafok (Budapest’s District XXII) and will be completed with help from EU funds.
The “wine town” will be in a multi-hectare cellar of the Zaborszky cellar system, which is 120 kilometers long and the only one of its kind in Hungary. The attraction will feature a “wine street” meant to resemble cozy lanes in the villages of wine regions, a museum showcasing the work of coopers, woodcarvers and ship builders and an installation on open-fire cave dwellings. According to its press release, the project is to be finished by June next year.
