This little cookbook published in 1987 by Népszava, the left-leaning newspaper, holds all of the standard Hungarian recipes, despite a gloomy introduction which states that food was once a major part of social life, but these days in our modern lifestyle “the time of big dinners and lunches are over, with the exceptions of important family occasions.” It continues: “We believe that we are not committing a sin if at some exceptional occasions we evoke the memory of the old big feasts – however, for the rest of the days of the year we have to return to our moderate lifestyle.”

Excellent resource for the hard to find Hungarian recipes that I was lucky enough to enjoy from my parents.
