Trappista

Cheese Variety

Trappista (“TRA-PISH-TA”) is probably the most popular type of cheese in Hungary and considered to be a “hungaricum,” despite originating from France. Its mild, salty flavor makes it suitable for many purposes. Trappista also has a smoked variety. White and red wines both go with it, such as Somlói Juhfark, Somlói Hárslevelű, Egri Bikavér, Soproni Kékfrankos, Merlot and Kékoportó.
