Your Cheap Budapest Lunch is Just a Tweet Away

We hear from one of our very few locally based pals on Twitter (the microblogging phenomenon is yet to really catch on here), that at least two restaurants are posting their lunch menus, usually a soup and a main often for under Ft 1,000 (€3.60). The first is downtown cellar pub, Kiadó Kocsma, reviewed here, while the second is Fecske Terasz, the "Swallow Terrace" perched above the Komjádi Swimming Pool. A quick glance at the Kiadó Kocsma feed reveals that today's offering is "Zöldborsó leves, roston csirke sajtmártással, párolt rizzsel," ("pea soup, grilled chicken with cheese sauce and steamed rice"), while Fecske Terasz tweets "Póréhagymalves, tejszínes, gombás szűzragu rizzsel" ("leek soup, tenderloin with cream and mushroom sauce and rice"). If it wasn't so damn cold, Fecske would be the better option, but fortunately online lunch options don't stop at Twitter. Over on menuebed.hu, you can view a Google map with daily menus and prices around Budapest. Menu Ebed, too is a little sparse, but let's hope Budapest's slow adoption of Web 2.0 speeds up, because the city's lunch menus are an institution everyone should know about.

Lots of restaurants post their "deli menu" on their websites. Ring
Cafe, Artesano, Abszint, Noir et L'Or, just to name a few. I am so
happy it's been "centralized" online. Saves me time taking a walk
around the block to pick the best option.
That headline should read "Your Cheap Budapest Lunch is Just a Tweet Away".
Oh right!
