They Say Wine Stimulates the Appetite, But…

appetite-for-destruction1.jpg

The above pic was snapped at the wine festival recently held near Budapest’s City Park by our Paris-based friend B.D., and is terrifying for several reasons that have nothing to do with the Spanish Inquisition-style implements being used to pin the carcass to the rotisserie. First is the question of what kind of carcass has been pinned up.

And even if one is confident the thing isn’t a Danish Hound or an African Lion (the Budapest Zoo is just around the corner) and is instead something that mooed rather than barked or roared before it was gored, there is still the likelihood that a Hungarian cow cooked like this is going to taste more like dog or cat rather than beef. All of which to say, we would have gone for a nice simple hot dog instead. Woof.

UPDATE: One of our colleagues says that not only is he sure it was beef, but that this can turn out better than you’d think.

UPDATE (II): The plot thickens.
