There is Such a Thing as a Half-price Lunch this Gluttonous Thursday

But you might be hard pressed to find one. Yes, it's time once again for our annual belated heads-up about "Torkos Csütörtök", the Hungarian Tourist Board's extremely successful nationwide half-price restaurant promotion. And finding a meal, half-price or otherwise, this "Gluttonous Thursday" could be even more difficult than usual - a record-breaking 1,294 restaurants have signed up, which means, factoring in the recent spate of closures, the number of non-participating restaurants is smaller than ever. Click here to search the restaurants in your area that are most probably fully booked and off-limits all day tomorrow.

It will be near impossible to find any places now as people were complaining almost the day after the start of this 'promotion' being advertised/announced (about a month ago) that restaurants were saying that they had no spaces left. I could be cynical about this.

One again, it is arrived the "memorial day" for who thinks that the food is something solid to drop in a plate and to fill the stomach, fortunately, the best restaurants in Town didn't join the "half-price restaurant promotion", so still available good meals today...
Just for the couriosity: "Torkos Csütörtök" was last week, since yesterday we are in the Lent, which should be also a fast period...

@Gladio: "...food is something solid to drop in a plate and to fill the stomach..." Oh no, you're right. Food is a divine gift, we should honour it and offer sacrifices in its name, talk about it in hushes tones and spend many evenings in the sparkling company of friends who all love to stuff their faces and spend their days mulling over the finer points of which restaurant offers the most consistently cut julienne carrot strips to decorate their meals. It's food, not art or literature. A pleasure for the stomach and the senses, but not brain food to be ruminated over endlessly. And who cares about lent?

It was also impossible to find a free parking space in the center last night, something strange was going on and it was called,"Torkos Csütörtök" We were also skeptical about this 1/2 priced restaurant promotion but desided to take the opportunity and try a place that we would normally never go, Belcanto, yes the singing place! We called at 19:00 and lucked out by getting the last table for two. The place was truly fully booked and in fact had another packed 2nd seating at 21:30. The food was good, nothing to write home about but good all the same. The service was great and the entertainment was really entertaining. I expected the singing and music would be really annoying but once we settled in it was totally enjoyable. The band and two opera singers were very professional and even the occational "singing waiters" interlude was charming. We were thoroughly satisfied with the experience and my cheap Italian husband even left a 35% tip. Normally the place is not so cheap but keep in mind that your also paying for the show. We will definitely go back when the in-laws are in town! The Hungarian Tourist Board should have more of these 1/2 price promotions through out the year to get people to try restaurants they usually wouldn't. Next year remember to book early otherwise you may be stuck at home eating your over-cooked pasta with pesto, senza musica!

Eh Kelly, are you working to the Hungarian Tourism Board and your Italian husband is not able to cook at home some pasta "al dente" singing "Oh Sole Mio"?
Oh my God... you found the wrong one!!!
