Szerecsendió

Nutmeg

The Hungarian word for nutmeg, szerecsendió (“SERE-CHEN-DEE-O”), literally means “Saracen walnut,” or “walnut of the Moors.” It is sold in whole or ground form and is used in meat and vegetable soups, dips, főzelékek and dishes made from potatoes, fish or wild game. It can also be added to cakes made with honey.

For related information, see fűszer (spices) and fűszernövény (herbs).
