Szarvasgomba

Truffle

Magyar Szarvasgomba

As in other European countries, szarvasgomba (“SAR-VASH GOM-BA”; literally “deer mushroom”) is considered a delicacy in Hungary, and is found in forests in several parts of the country. In addition to public markets and specialty food stores, Hungarian truffles and truffle-based products can be purchased online via szarvasgomba.hu.

See also gomba (mushroom).

The above picture was taken at Budapest’s Nagyvásárcsarnok (Central Market Hall) in March, 2008.

  1. Piros Villa says:

I wonder if there is any Hungarian-produced truffle oil? It certainly
    has a less-expensive entry feel and very versatile… Curious—well
anyhow it is not hard to make one’s own…
