Having teased you with a Budapest steakhouse that doesn't exist, and one that does but maybe shouldn't, we're obliged to follow up with a nice beefy tip featuring some serious steak and not a lot of talk. So here it is:

The above juiciness was actually enjoyed back in December at Taverna Pomo D'Oro, the swanky District V "second" restaurant of nearby Trattoria Pomo D'Oro.

The three months between eating and posting may be why we can't remember what kind of cheese this delicious appetizer our friend had was made of.

Or even what was in the pasta we had, other than that it was also scrumptious.

But we'll probably never forget the steak. We called back earlier today to check up on some of the details, which are as follows: It's a classic Bistecca alla Fiorentina - i.e. T-Bone - made from 24-month-old beef. It costs Ft 900 per 100 grams (€3.60, or €36 for the classic one-kilo monster), and a minimum order is half a kilo, which includes the weight of the bone. This also includes the wonderful sight of having it carved off the bone table-side, and served up. As for sides, we had the classic sautéed spinach (Ft 890) and seared potatoes (Ft 490) but you can also have it with grilled vegetables, a salad, or probably anything else they have. According to the folks at the restaurant, the menu is changing over the next few weeks, but this item is staying on "for sure." (Though they are not sure if the prices will stay the same.)

So how did it go over with the gang? Let's just say that everyone was in such fine spirits that when a gypsy band popped by for a visit, no one moaned or even stopped to wonder what these guys were doing in an Italian restaurant. Though at least one of us wondered whether it was a plot to distract us, and steal some of that mouth-watering meat from our plates.
