Sörretek (“SURE-RE-TEK”) is a variety of radish which is large, round and white. It is sold at Hungarian markets and stores in the spring and is a popular addition to salads and sandwiches.
Its name literally means “beer radish,” and it is said to taste good with beer, but it goes by at least one more name, vajretek, literally “butter radish.” It is also sometimes called fehér retek (“white radish”) and vajrépa (“butter carrot”).
