While we were getting green in London, the ongoing scandal surrounding expired food in Hungary continued to bubble and ferment. On Wednesday, a list of past-date-of-sale food items relabeled and marketed by the disgraced M.E.G.A. group was published on the website of the Hungarian Agriculture Ministry. The Pest County Animal Health and Food Control Station has banned the marketing of 159 of these products, many of which had their original expiry dates removed together with their tracking labels. The blacklist include meat and dairy products, jams, sauces, cereals, cereal bars and, ironically enough, organic food products, and can be viewed here, assuming you are already not feeling sick enough.
According to hirtv.hu, the Austrian owner of M.E.G.A. Trade, Stefan Fischer, rejected all the accusations on Tuesday, claiming that the whole thing was a set-up by jealous competitors. Nevertheless, the case is being followed up by the National Investigation Office.
