We're currently doing some long-overdue site maintenance that will likely involve some outages, including a temporary shut-down of our commenting functions. We'll hopefully be done within a few days. In the meantime, thanks for your patience and concern!

Sárgaborsó

Yellow Pea

Sárgaborsó, also called felesborsó or szárazborsó, is used in Hungary to make soup or főzelék. It is sold at stores and markets all year round, is cheap and popular, still, many Hungarians won’t be able to tell what it is exactly. It is widely believed to be a separate species, when in fact it grows on the same plant as zöldborsó, called Pisum sativum hortense in Latin. The plant’s young seeds are called zöldborsó, while the ripened seeds are called sárgaborsó.
