Sajt

Cheese

Hungarian cheese Kecskemét sajtüzlet

While sajt (“SHOYT”) comes in many varieties in Hungary, most are relatively plain. The word sajt is also used in conjunction with several foods that have nothing to do with cheese, such as disznósajt (“head cheese”) and birsalmasajt (quince jelly). It should not be confused with túró, the popular curd cheese used in numerous Hungarian dishes.

The above picture was featured in this September, 2007 article about shopping for cheese in the central Hungarian town of Kecskemét.
