Romania-Mania (II): Best. Breakfast. Bacon. Ever.

Though Romanians may be streaming across the border to forage for food in Hungary, you shouldn't get the impression that there is no decent grub to be had next door. Exhibit "A" is this gorgeous plate of thickly-sliced and lightly-seared bacon that was presented to us one morning last summer in the eastern Transylvanian town of Szováta/Sovata, best known as the hometown of the best tracksuit ever.
What's interesting about this is that the item in question, which seems to be normal császárszalonna (not to be confused with the equally-delicious fonott császár we profiled last fall) is seldom if ever seen served up like this at breakfast in Hungary. Big mistake! Anyway, if this looks as good to you as it does to us, remember that you don't have to go to Romania to get it, because as we've just discovered, even Romanians are now traveling to Hungary to do their shopping.
