Rizses Hús

Meat with Rice

Rizses hús is a popular everyday dish in Hungarian families. It is usually served with savanyúság. This recipe was originally published in Hungarian on the gastro blog Gigi a konyhában (“Gigi in the Kitchen”). The author of the recipe notes that it can be made from turkey, pork or veal.

500 grams turkey leg, diced
1 onion, finely chopped
1 mug of rice

Steam onion in oil and add paprika. Toss with meat and sauté for a short while. Add plenty of water (enough for the rice as well) and cook the stew until done. Remove two mugs of juice from the stew; add water if necessary. Sauté rice in a small amount of oil, add juice of stew and cook on low heat until tender. Mix with meat and serve.
