Retro Rice Shortage Special at Tesco

Although there has been some misguided reminiscing recently about the good old days, no one, especially not us gourmands, is fondly remembering the dark days when hungry citizens had to stand in line for hours to get their hands on basic necessities (see vodka line, left image). So imagine how our stomachs turned when we saw this sign outside Tesco’s in Budaörs, which reads:

Dear Shoppers,

Rice may only be purchased for home use. Maximum ten kilos.

Thanks for your understanding.

But thinking about it, a rice crisis is no big deal – just imagine a pork fat crisis.
