We're currently doing some long-overdue site maintenance that will likely involve some outages, including a temporary shut-down of our commenting functions. We'll hopefully be done within a few days. In the meantime, thanks for your patience and concern!

Retek

For Hungarians, the word retek (“RET-EK”) first and foremost implies red-skinned radishes, rather than the less-common jégcsapretek (daikon/white radish, literally “icicle radish”) or fekete retek (black radish). Retek is a staple in Hungarian gardens and is always consumed raw, in sandwiches or salads, or as a snack.

For related information, see gyümölcs (fruit) and zöldség (vegetables).
