Hungary’s strange advertising laws – or maybe they are just customs – seem to prohibit a newspaper from mentioning the name of a business even if something totally newsworthy happens to it, like a raging inferno, for example. So when “a District XII pizzeria on the corner of Alkotás and Márvány utcas” was reported by state news wire MTI to have caught fire over the weekend, it took a bit of detective work to find out which one they actually meant.
Fortunately, that is exactly the kind of detective work the Caboodle.hu directories were made for. We quickly pinpointed the Da Lello Pizzeria and gave them a call to find out what the fuss was all about. The friendly member of staff was a little bemused, assuring us that the homely Italian joint only spent long enough in the oven to give the place a nice smokey flavour and ensure the cheese is cooked just right. In fact, the pizza oven kept on firing throughout Sunday, which is the day of the reported blaze. Finally, we can also report that Da Lello’s serves a nice, genuine Italian-style pizza, and that Lello didn’t pay us a single forint to tell you any of this.
