Poultry Processor Chickens Out After Tasteless Ad Bombs

Executives of a Hungarian poultry processor and their public relations advisors have been busy this week dealing with the fallout of an ad campaign that is tasteless even by the country’s pretty loose standards. According to portal hirszerzo.hu, Zala county bird-plucker Zalabaromfi has decided to yank the ads, which feature a sort-of-clever-but-not-really gag showing how women can be cut up just like chickens.

The picture itself doesn’t need any explaining, but you might note that “Bomba csirke” roughly translates as “Bombshell chicken.” (Bomba comes from bombázó, which literally means “bomber” in Hungarian, and also refers to well-built or otherwise very attractive women.)

In his company’s defense, Zalabaromfi head Róbert Zsipi said they hadn’t meant to insult or offend anyone with the campaign, which Zsipi called a “joke.” But the public body in charge of regulating such ads received numerous complaints from people who saw it and apparently didn’t get the joke. Not to mention all those chickens down at the factory.
