Grape Varietals

Portugieser, also known as Blauer Portugieser and its former Hungarian name of Kékoportó (EU rules banned use of this name as it refers to a particular location), is a red varietal common in Hungary, particularly in the red wine regions of Villány and Eger. The grape, thought to have originated in Austria rather than Portugal, is also one of the permitted varieties in the Bikavér (Bull's Blood) blend.
