Pogácsa

Pogácsa (“PO-GA-CHA”) is a ubiquitous Hungarian snack, and comes in many varieties. It is sold at nearly every bakery and pastry shop, and is fairly simple to make at home. Pogácsa comes in small bite-sized pieces, and larger pieces. The following are some common (and not-so-common) varieties:

Burgonyás pogácsa (with potatoes)
Dióspogácsa (with walnuts)
Édes vajaspogácsa (sweet butter scones)
Egyszerű pogácsa (“simple”, made with yeast, flour, oil and salt)
Hájas or zsíros pogácsa (with leaf-lard)
Juhtúrós pogácsa (with sheep cheese)
Káposztás pogácsa (with cabbage)
Liba töpörtyűs pogácsa (with goose cracklings)
Mézespogácsa (with honey)
Sajtos pogácsa (with cheese)
Sonkás pogácsa (with ham)
Soproni babpogácsa (with beans)
Töltött pogácsa (filled)
Töpörtyűs pogácsa (with cracklings)
Túrós pogácsa (with curd cheese)
Vajas pogácsa (with butter)
