Parenyica

Cheese Variety

Parenyica (“PA-RE-NYI-TZA”), a smoked cheese with a taste similar to ham, is considered to be a “hungaricum,” just don’t mention this to your Slovak friends. Its main ingredients are the same as those of Gomolya, and it used to be made from sheep’s milk in the past but today is usually made from cow’s milk. Parenyica is eaten by itself or used in vegetable or meat dishes. Red wines go with it.
