Apologies for the light posting. We’ve been short-staffed and working on some multi-visit reviews, but will try to get back on track a-snap, and will be posting something within the next hour or so. Now this can be significantly shortened to: We are sorry we missed you! Please come back on (date) and check out our new interior! You see we Hungarians even though we don’t want to admit it even to ourselves have been too long in the good old monarchy and our way of thinking would give Kafka a headache. On the other hand English (well at least American English) thinking is easy, personal and simple. Still, love Hungarian, the most beautiful language in the face of the Earth.
Ah, the wonders of Hungarian – how about hideg felvagott ? Meaning, in literal translation: cold cut upwards ? Or the many words used to depict family relations – older sister, younger sister, older sister of the father, younger nice of your grandmother’s sister’s husband… ? No matter where I am, and wherever my pot is cooking, I am reminded that we are tribalists rather than individualists and I admire the Hungarian stubbornness that finds ‘echt’ Hungarian words for obviously brandnew thingies – try ‘honlapagazda’ ….yes, you guessed it right.
