Pálinka Production Stagnates, Pálinka Promenade Set to Boost Consumption

palinka_promenade.jpg

We read over on MTI’s Econews site (it’s one of the handful of non-subscription articles available every day) that pálinka production has stagnated in Hungary. While this seems like bad news for drinkers at first glance, we are informed Nagy András, our man in pálinka quoted in the original piece, that the MTI brief doesn’t tell anything like the full story. Although production has indeed stagnated, largely due to a poor fruit harvest last year, some research has shown sales up by as much as 45% year on year. And consumption is guaranteed to increase further this weekend, what with the Pálinka Promenade in town again.
