Organic Options Increase in Budapest

biocentrum-mammut.jpg

Hungary’s largest organic products store opened in Budapest’s Mammut I shopping center on October 4, reports Velvet.hu. The 600-square-meter store named Bio Centrum sells the same products normally available in Hungarian grocery stores, from kolbász and yoghurt to cosmetics and laundry detergents, but all of the products are organic. Most of the vegetables available were produced in Hungary, however, 90% of the fruits are imported from other countries. As a way of comparing prices to your local shop, at the Bio Centrum, a head of salad costs Ft 500, and a celery plant Ft 350. There is a 30% to 40% premium over non-organic items, but as Velvet.hu points out, frequent visits to the doctor are no longer cheap either.
