It’s been a long time since we’ve added new entries to our Treasury of Hungarian Recipes, partly out of a lack of time, and partly because we could never decide which traditional eats we needed to include. At least the second part of the problem has now been partly solved, thanks to our friends over at food-ordering portal netpincer.hu, who last week announced the results of their recent online poll to discover Hungary’s favorite dishes. After tallying some 77,000 votes, they revealed the winners and finalists in three categories (soups, main courses and desserts) on a special site built for the purpose, kedvencetel.hu (“favorite food”; click here for the list).
It appears we have recipes only for the winning soup (Újházy Tyúkhúsleves) and one regional variation of the most-loved main (Debreceni Töltött Káposzta), both of which we’ve bumped up to the front page. Now we’re gonna get busy making sure we have all of these masterpieces of Magyar cuisine, up to and including French Onion Soup.

I would dearly love a few variations on
pogacsa!
@Elsbeth: Pogácsa are common in many countries (try searching on poğaça, pogača, pogačice…), not just Hungary. There are some really delicious recipes on the net, but the only one I have tried myself is this really simple one (great for a party snack): http://www.giverecipe.com/fluffy-pogaca.html Though these are very different from the pogácsa you get here. If you can read Hungarian then there are lots of recipes and links here pogacsa.lap.hu
