Northeast Town to Roast Inhabitants Alive With Heatwave Stuffed Cabbage Festival

lots-of-stuffed-cabbage.jpgThe good news is that the kánikula (heat wave) that has recently had Hungary in a death-grip is set to ease a bit this weekend. The bad news is that the relief may not be enough for whoever is crazy enough to go to Hungary’s first-ever Hegyközi Töltött Káposzta Fesztivál (stuffed cabbage festival), which is being held tomorrow to in the eastern town Pálháza. (Hegyközi means “between the hills,” suggesting the place may at least be shaded.) The event is said to be a celebration of the fifth anniversary of Pálháza’s elevation to town status. Hopefully there won’t be so many casualties from the combination of blistering mid-summer heat and hearty winter food that next year’s event has to be held in the village of Pálháza. Given the short notice, we’ll provide you a recipe below that you can use if you want to join in the fun at home, but note that we are not legally liable for the consequences.
