Meggyleves

Sour Cherry Soup

Meggyleves is one of the most popular types of fruit soup among Hungarians. It is always eaten cold as starter before lunch, most often on hot summer days. The following is a translation of a recipe originally published in Hungarian on finomreceptek.hu.

Ingredients:
2 liters water
300 grams sour cherries
4 tablespoons sugar
1 packet vanilla sugar
Pinch of salt
2 slapped tablespoon flour
100 milliliters sour cream
2-3 cloves

Method:
Wash and deseed sour cherries, put in cold water with sugars, salt and cloves and bring to a boil. When it is cooked, mix flour with a small amount of water until smooth and add to soup. Dilute sour cream with a small amount of liquid and add to soup. Spice to taste and bring to a boil again. This recipe can be made with any fruit.
