Hungarian McDonald's Switching to Healthier Cooking Oil
In a bid to bring in healthier eaters and as a way of combating critics, fast food giant McDonald's announced last week that they would be changing their cooking oil in a bid to eliminate trans fat from their menu. The new oil will be a mixture of rapeseed and vegetable oil, with McDonald's adding that while this will raise costs, they will not pass these on to the consumer, which usually means instead of a price increase expect a portion size decrease. As Hungarian business site mfor.hu observed, this is not the first time McDonald's has changed its cooking oil to improve the health qualities of its food, switching from animal fats to vegetable-based oil a decade and a half ago. Nonetheless, when eating healthy springs to mind, who thinks of McDonald's?
