Hungarian pork already has a reputation for being uncannily delicious. But now one particular porker at an experimental organic farm in Mernye, Somogy County may put the whole country into the Guinness Book of World Records. According to a report on index.hu, Nyanyóca the pig recently gave birth to 21 – count ‘em: twenty-one – piglets.
László Fülöp, a bio-energy researcher and the developer of the breeding process used at the farm, said the secret of the large litter lies in the organic food dished out, the wooden pens employed, and the open spaces the pigs of Mernye get to frolic around in.
The litter is definitely a record in Hungary, as it beats the standing achievement of 18 little pigs, and Nyanyóca’s breeders say they have already contacted the people at Guinness and believe she’s likely to get the nod. Unfortunately, even if she does, she’s probably not going to have much time to rest on her laurels, as a deal has been signed with Russia to buy a million pigs raised in the same way, which translates into just less than 50,000 more Nyanyóca-sized litters.
