Lencse

Lentil

Lencse (“LEN-CHE”) in Hungarian usually refers to a brown-colored variety of lentil, which is most commonly used to make lencsefőzelék. This dish is eaten on New Year’s Day, because it is believed to bring wealth. The plant is grown in the northern and western parts of the country.
