We're currently doing some long-overdue site maintenance that will likely involve some outages, including a temporary shut-down of our commenting functions. We'll hopefully be done within a few days. In the meantime, thanks for your patience and concern!
Lekvár
Jam
Lekvár (“LAKE-VAAR”) is made from virtually every variety of gyümölcs (fruit) grown in Hungary. It is sometimes called dzsem (roughly, “jam”) or, more rarely, íz (“taste”).
There is a difference between these types of jam.
“Lekvar” is smooth and paste like or runny.
“Dzsem” is more like a preserve with bits of fruit or a chunky texture.
“Iz” is like blocks of jelly only it is made of jam. Jam you can cut. (Quince is a very common fruit to make “iz” from.) Pieces of “iz” can be used in cake mixes.
