Kolozsvári káposzta (“KOLOSH-VORI KAA-POSTA”) is a variety of rakott káposzta (layered cabbage) named for the Transylvanian town known to Hungarians as Kolozsvár, and Romanians as Cluj-Napoca. It normally consists of layers of savanyúkáposzta (sauerkraut), rice, sausage, bacon, and sour cream, and is often served with fried pork chops.

My Grandmother Maria (Mary) Riesch came to America from Hungary around 1920 and brought the recipe for this dish with her. Many of my family members still make it and we all love it! I was so surprised to acutally find something about it online.
