Kocsonya

Kocsonya (“KOCH-ON-YA”) is a traditional a “soft” aspic dish made from pork, and including a range of items such as pig ears, feet, snouts and hard-boiled eggs. More rarely it is made from fish, in which case it is known as halkocsonya.

A festival is held early each year in the northeastern city of Miskolc devoted to all things kocsonya, which in 2006 saw the creation of the oversized “demonstration” kocsonya pictured above, and in 2008 led to this morbidly humorous kocsonya-related story.
