Juhfark

Grape Varietal

Juhfark ("YOO-FARK"), literally "sheep's tail" on account of the longish, cylindrical shape of its bunches, is a white grape originating from Austria or Hungary. Although the variety lost popularity in Hungary over the past decade, more and more winemakers are rediscovering it, partly due to its highly marketable name. Ripening in mid-October, it produces unique, firm acids, fine aroma and a slightly tangy taste that ages well. The best Juhfark wines come from Somló but it is also grown in the Etyek-Buda, Csopak and Mecsekalja regions.
