Just a quick follow-up to my recent post about local ice cream competitions pitting Budapest fashion against countryside wholesomeness. Last weekend I made it to the Csuta Cukrászda out in the village of Csákvár and tasted their házias vidámság (“home-style cheerfulness”), which was named ice cream of the year, and it blew the fancy pants off the stuff from the capital. Bonus: there’s a cute playground out back, and the people aren’t horrible Budapest snobs. Well, except for me…

Looks really delicious – had to go to the freezer and get me some icecream pronto.
But I added some raspberries and Ribizli from my neighbour’s garden that I gathered this morning …
yummy!
PS: This village has a famous Esterházy castle, we have to visit this some day, and won’t forget the icecream …
How much was it per sccop?
What is the taste of this “házias vidámság”?
try Vári in Pest, the BEST ice cream ever, really
and Vári is soooo far from a Buda girl like me, it feels like countryside….
And where is this Vári?
Elsbeth, it is on the corner of Csömöri and Szlovák in the 16th district but it’s really worth the trip
