If you’ve noticed a larger than normal volume of stories in the international press about the problem of obesity over the last few days, the reason may be the 15th European Congress on Obesity, which is currently underway in Budapest. Yesterday, for example, we were interested to read in the International Herald Tribune about how up to 15 times as much “transfat” was found in samples of food taken from branches of KFC in and around Hungary as in other countries. But not as interested as we were to find out where the delegates to the anti-fat summit are eating tonight!
From the program for the meeting we discovered that the “gala dinner” for the event will take place at 20:00 today at the Lázár Lovaspark, a swanky equestrian facility in the town of Domonyvölgy, just to the east of Budapest. We didn’t call to find out what’s on the menu for tonight’s event, but judging from the pictures in the photo gallery on the place’s excellent website (see above) – and the fact that participants are being charged €65 a head – it’s not going to be steamed broccoli and tofu burgers. Well, at least they won’t be temped to stop for some KFC on the way home. Jó étvágyat!
