Food safety inspectors discovered an illegal confectionery plant December 7th in Budapest’s District XVI and seized 1.5 tons of cakes, writes index.hu, although this didn’t quite prevent the owner of the cakes from carrying on in a distribution attempt. The total value of the cakes reached Ft 2.5 million (€10,000), which the inspectors “seized” and ordered to be destroyed. Despite this order, the owner of the confectionery plant began to transport and sell the not-so-well-seized cakes, but was stopped and taken to the police station by officers who also called the Animal Health Directorate who then also ordered an investigation of the illegal bakery.
The illegally produced bejglis, zserbós, Esterházy-cakes, mignons, linzers and salty crackers were then transported to the Health Directorate’s site, with the cakes to be destroyed on Monday. The owner of the plant faces up to Ft 3 million in fines which must be imposed within 30 days.
