If You Ever Want to Eat Sausage Again, Don’t Read This

Unfortunately, we’ve gotten word of yet another grisly story involving people selling meat in Hungary they really, really shouldn’t be. This one comes from the Pest County town of Tárnok, where an illegal meat packing plant was discovered on Monday containing machines that hadn’t been properly cleaned for 20 years or more.

According to various news reports, the Pest County Animal Health and Food Control Station was notified of the illegal operation by local residents. When the garage was raided, workers were mincing meat and several cases of completed kolbász (sausage) were found being stored in the yard outside, surrounded by dog feces. The food cops immediately poured detergent on the finished product to prevent it from being sold.

Some of the kolbász and hurka previously made at the garage had been already sold to a nearby store, where it was seized. The store was closed, and the illegal plant could face a fine of several million forints.
