If It's Got To Be A Wine Festival, It's Got To Be Tokaj

Tokaj-Hegyaljai Szüreti NapokAlthough every winegrowing village in Hungary is drunk on it's harvest celebrations right now, the really big one is this weekend in Tokaj. The all day events, with a tradtion that goes back to 1932, are not restricted to getting nicely boozed up in the fall sunshine, there is bags of non-wine stuff going on to keep you from slumping under the table. Activities include a soccer tournament, a hill running race, the essential bogrács cooking competition, puppet shows for the kids, boating on the Tisza, and much more, all with a live musical soundtrack. It goes without saying that the region's cellars will be open for wine tasting, wine buying and their aftermath, and events will be rounded off by what promises to be a raucus street party. And if you can't remember it all, there's always next year.
