Just a few days after we published this report suggesting hard times at McDonald’s in Hungary, we get another report which suggests the opposite is true. According to this piece in daily Népszabadság, execs of local parent firm McDonald’s Magyarországi Étterem Hálózat Kft yesterday said sales rose a healthy 12% last year, to 38.7 billion big Hungarian forints. Almost 80 million guests were served – that’s eight visits for every Hungarian – including 1.3 million trips to the company’s growing number of “McCafes.”
And while things slowed down a bit in the first three months of the year, the numbers began to pick up in April. Currently, there are 99 McD’s in Magyarland, split almost evenly between MMEH and franchise holders. That means they only need to add one more before they can build on the good will generated by last year’s 20th anniversary celebration by offering Ft 100 “McMagyar” menus in honor of their 100th location. Can’t wait!
