Hungarian Foodblogging Almost Ripe

Anyone familiar with the intricacies of the international foodblogging scene knows that the best thing about these blogs are the competitions, games and quizes that they regularly organize to spice up long and boring posts about recipes that no one will ever try to cook at home. Ideas can range from “cook something with a given range of ingredients” to “send a package of food to a foodblogger living in Mongolia and see what he can make of it”, and the results tend to be funny – or at least entertaining.

Well, it seems that Hungarian foodblogging, which only a year ago was close to nonexistent, has become ripe enough to support a community of adventurous foodies willing to participate in almost anything that involves romping around in the kitchen. Chili & Vanilia, the grande dame of Hungarian foodblogs has just started the “Magyar Gasztroblogok Virtuális Tematikus Rendezvénye” (something like Virtual Themed Event for Hungarian Gastroblogs, and no, it doesn’t sound much better in Hungarian). The hostess of MGVTR will of course be Chili herself, who in the coming weeks will set varous “themes,” and all Hungarian foodbloggers are invited to prepare something involving this theme.

The first challenge is already out, and it involves low-calorie gourmet desserts. Bloggers have to submit their take on the subject on February 2nd, so anyone into sugar AND diets, should definitely click around the Hungarian foodblogs by early February. Or just check Chili’s blog!
