Hárslevelű

Grape Varietal

Hárslevelű (“HAAHRSH-LE-VE-LOO”), Lipovina in Slovak, Lindenblättriger in German and Feuille de Tilleul in French, is the second most important grape grown in the Tokaj-Hegyalja, although it is also popular in the Somló, Mátraalja and Eger regions. It is used to make crisp single-varietal whites and blended with Furmint as the base wine for Aszú dessert wines. It ripens in early October and yields full-bodied, aromatic and spicy wines. Hárslevelű is thought to be of Hungarian origin but evidence is inconclusive.
