Gombóc (“GUM-BOHTS”) is a sweet dish eaten by Hungarians as dessert after a meal or as main course after soup. It is a dumpling made from potato, flour and eggs, filled with a whole plum, a piece of apricot or other fruit. Other varieties include túrógombóc, in which potato is replaced with túró in the dough.
Gombóc is also the Hungarian word for a “ball” or scoop of ice cream.
