Attila Gere Lands Surprise International Nomination
In good grape news to counteract the bad this week, winemaker Attila Gere has scored a direct PR hit by winning a nomination for international "winemaker of the year" award from Germany's Wein Gourmet Magazine, writes tabloid Bors. This is remarkable for two reasons. Firstly, as a producer of well rounded wines in the French mold, Gere is not even a stand-out grower in Hungary. Secondly, he sells 90% of his wines domestically in Hungary and does not even have a distributor in Germany. As a result, few of the mag's readers can get hold of his produce - unless they come on a wine tour to Hungary, in which case they are likely to find many more memorable wines than those offered by their champion.
