Most famous for his “Kopár” prestige red cuvee, Attila Gere was voted “Winemaker of the Year” in 1994, is a founder member of Hungary’s winemaking elite and holds a host of international honors. He grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Kékfrankos and Portugieser on 50 hectares in some of the best locations in the Villány-Siklós region. In addition to his achievements in winemaking, Gere was the first winemaker to make the transition into wine tourism, opening a modern guesthouse in the center of Villány in 1991. The Gere family is also planning to open a “wine and wellness” hotel in the area.
