Famous Restaurant to Host Obscure Wine and Cheese Festival

In addition to the "Foodapest" festival currently underway in Budapest, another potentially interesting chewing and boozing event will take place this weekend at the Gerbeaud Étterem, the sister restaurant of the famous Café Gerbeaud . We can't find anything about it on the restaurant's website, but through a long email chain we were alerted to the third annual "New Wine and Cheese Festival," which, as the name suggests, highlights new cheese and wine.

Here are the details:

On both days, from 10:00 in the morning until 6:00 p.m., a tasting ticket will allow you to chomp on a variety of new bor and sajt. Saturday will feature a "ceremonial presentation and greeting" of the new wines of Hungary's wine regions. There will be a meeting of "young Hungarian wine makers" and the presenting of an award for the "Best New Wine of Hungary 2006" and the "Best Cheese Maker of Hungary 2006." On Sunday there will be a "consecration of Advent wine and cheese."

The wine part of the festivities is being organized by the Nyitott Pincék Szövetsége (Open Cellars Association). Meanwhile, just in case you are concerned about the provenance of the various offerings, or the vagueness of the whole thing, the music is being provided by the wind orchestra of the Command of the Customs and Financial Guard, or (VPOP).
