Fake Croatian Seasoning Found in Kecskemét Cement Mixer

vegeta.jpgIt seems Hungarian food scammers will stop at very little to make a quick buck. After discoveries of counterfeit premium products like caviar and tokaj wine, the latest product to fall victim of fakers is distinctly unglamorous seasoning mix Vegeta. Financial guards discovered a “processing plant” in a Kecskemét garage and are investigating any connection to 200 kg of the stuff found in the same town last October. According to Wikipedia, the original version of Croatia’s number one export is made from salt, dehydrated vegetables (carrot, parsnip, onions, celery, parsley leaves), monosodium glutamate, sugar, cornstarch, spices, disodium inosinate, riboflavin (for coloring), but given that it was made using cement mixers and rusty tin cans, the contents of the remix are anyone’s guess.
